Introduction

Do you have expert knowledge of the betting and gaming industry and how it's covered in both sector media and more widely, with detailed insights into how the news agenda is set?

Do you have extensive contacts, covering stakeholders and decision makers across the betting and gaming industry, including at major publications, operators and suppliers? 

Are you an exceptional writer, communicator and storyteller with first-class interview skills, with experience in a range of B2B editorial content?

Are you creative and just as comfortable pitching as well as writing?

Are you a natural networker who is capable of building and maintaining relationships at all levels, with an affinity for speaking to and influencing new people?

Do you have a thorough understanding of how PR complements the news gathering process?

Are you capable of designing and implementing media relations strategies based on the needs of publishers and journalists, applying them to clients in a commercially-beneficial fashion?

In order to accelerate its growth, Press Box PR is hiring an Industry Media Account Director to grow this new division of the company, working from a solid base of publisher contacts and clients - but with an ambition to scale. 

The successful candidate will work with the Managing Director and Founder to grow the business on the simple premise of continually building and improving relationships with the biggest names in industry publishing, on behalf of a rapidly growing client list, consisting of suppliers, rights holders, affiliates, operators and more.

Press Box PR is a growing agency made up of ex-journalists and PR professionals combining their experience to generate B2B and B2C media coverage for a range of clients in the sports, consumer and professional industries.

Since its launch in 2020, Press Box PR has continually expanded, hiring over 10 journalists to develop their careers by devising and delivering our unique brand of editorial PR, paying staff a double-digit performance based bonus in consecutive years.

About the role

Press Box PR are hiring an Industry Media Account Director, reporting into the Managing Director and Founder. 

You will be responsible for designing, leading and implementing Press Box PR’s media relations activity and ultimately commercial strategy within its growing industry division. 

You will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with key publishers and journalists as well as relevant clients, providing the agency with a focal point for publisher and commercial relationships internally and externally. 

Your primary objective will be to ensure that the department grows by bolstering our industry PR capabilities and in turn identifying, delivering and scaling our commercial proposition for clients as a result. 

You will also be encouraged to seek new opportunities within similar verticals, growing Press Box PR’s industry media capabilities outside of betting and gaming and into other sectors including and not limited to; cryptocurrencies, financial services and trading, licensing and hospitality and other regulated industries. 

You’ll be given training and support to learn at your own pace, safe in the knowledge that through your understanding of the sector, industry journalism and stakeholder management, you’re already an expert in the most important aspects of the job.


Requirements

  • At least five years’ experience at a major betting and gaming industry publication, ideally at editor level or in a relevant public relations and comms role
  • Exceptional interviewing, writing and pitching skills
  • Demonstrable experience of interviewing and managing senior internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrable evidence of contacts at editor and decision maker level in key industry media
  • An innate understand of the industry media agenda with strong editorial skills and judgment, including SEO and trends within industry media publishing 
  • Effective pitching and contact-building skills, working both from warm and cold lists and an ability to find and convert new media contacts 
  • Experience working commercially or with commercial departments
  • Experience effectively managing stakeholders and colleagues at all levels
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience working on industry trade shows, award ceremonies and other events

Desirable Skills


  • Editorial experience outside of the betting and gaming industry
  • An understanding of other similar industries and their media 
  • Completed a journalism degree or NCTJ
  • Experience working in a public relations or an marketing agency environment 
  • Experience with tools such as Google Trends,Google Office, Meltwater, Buzzsumo, Gorkana, CloudTangle & Buzzstream
  • Commercial/sales experience
  • Experience in pitching, commercial copywriting and design of presentations and other reporting/sales materials
  • Experience of working in a press office/crisis communications experience
