Who is PBPR?

Press Box PR, one of the fastest-growing PR agencies in its sector, is looking for a Fractional Growth Director / Non-Executive Director to help accelerate the growth of its new Retail & Hospitality division.

Press Box PR is staffed predominantly by journalists who have made successful moves into PR. Formed in 2020, Press Box PR has grown quickly to become a thriving 45 person agency working for a range of consumer, sport, retail & hospitality and B2B clients on digital and creative PR projects.

Press Box PR is based in Barbican, central London and operates a hybrid model meaning teams spend an average of three days a week working away from home with colleagues in the office and clients at varying sites.

The role

Press Box PR launched its new Retail & Hospitality division in 2025 following a landmark new client win in Booker Wholesale (part of Tesco Group) offering specialist strategic consultancy, media buying, content creation, press office, project and activation services.

  • We seek a highly-experienced senior professional with experience in relevant sectors to accelerate the growth of the division’s revenue, client portfolio and presence in markets the successful candidate believes we can expand to and operate within. 
  • You are a senior professional with a demonstrable track record of business development and revenue growth in specialist trade PR in retail, hospitality and adjacent and/or complementary sectors including and not limited to FMCG, suppliers, operators among others. 
  • The role may suit someone who has an excellent network in relevant industries in a broader marketing, PR/communications and commercial capacity. 
  • The brief is open-ended, with a demonstrable relevant network, a track record of successful business growth (both in lead generation and client onboarding/relationship management) and clear credibility in relevant industries and sectors the key criteria. 
  • Experience accumulated in decades is welcome, ideally matched with the energy and executional rigour required to build from the ground up. 
  • We seek to match your experience and network of contacts with the Press Box PR’s Retail and Hospitality team’s excellence in trade PR, media buying, client management and account delivery in order to capitalise on the case studies and expertise within the team to accelerate revenue growth and expansion within the industry.

Requirements

  • The successful candidate will first be measured in how they can expand the scope of the department in terms of new relationships, with revenue growth a follow on. Appropriate marketing activity can be carried out to support a growth but is not the main focus of the role. 
  • The role will suit someone operating in a fractional, portfolio or consultant capacity. It is a positive for the successful candidate to have involvement in other non-competitive activity in relevant sectors and be active within relevant industries. 
  • The successful candidate should be motivated by the opportunity to work in an incubated ‘start up within a business’, with an existing Head of Retail, Account Director and Senior Publicist in place. The successful candidate will work closely with the current team, supported by the business owner and founder to ensure the investment in the growth of the division is successful.
  • The successful candidate can be based anywhere in the UK on the proviso they can meet in-person with the team and founder on a regular basis. 
  • The successful candidate will be given a budget and expenses to spend time at conferences, events and other business growth activities in person, in keeping with the company ethos of investment in relationship building.

Salary, benefits and perks

  • Consultant required for 2-4 days per week
  • SalaryDOE. There is no set salary or consultancy fee budget allocated for the role, but the founder is aware of the market rate for the relevant professional and is prepared to make an investment in the right person to grow the division. 
  • Bonuses and other success-related rewards are in scope for discussion. 
  • Preference is for a consultant, fractional or portfolio candidate but proposals for FT employment are also of interest from the right candidate.
