Brief
With Midnite launching its ‘built different' branding, the MO of the company is to stand out from itscompetitors and truly be unique in the field. With that in mind, PBPR thought, if the landscape is crowded down here on terra firma, why not look… up.
Strategy
PBPR took Midnite stratospheric, sending a phone 124,000ft in the air so Midnite could showcasing its digital prowess.
The space craft, which featured a mechanically functioning astronaut hand, successfully placed the wager, making history in the process, as the first betting app to place a bet in space.
The bet in question backed England to win the World Cup, which players can get at odds of 6/1 via Midnite’s sportsbook app.
Supported by former England midfielder, Gareth Barry, the campaign has been created to demonstrate Midnite’s other worldly ambition, while showcasing the user-friendliness of the app itself.
Activation
Back at base, the team enlisted the help of former England international, Gareth Barry, to not only place the bet and launch the campaign, but to also answer all of football's burning questions to build links and ensure the ‘built different' gospel was spread far and wide.
Results
Gareth Barry, former England midfielder who represented his country at the 2010 World Cup, said: “I have confidence that this England side has what it takes to win the World Cup. They have the major tournament experience now, and they have a world class manager to take the next step. Much like Midnite, I think this side is built different, and I wanted to back them in a way that hasn’t been done before.
“To get the chance to place a charity bet on England winning is great, but to see Midnite actually make it happen in space is amazing.
“I couldn’t believe it, watching the thumb move to place the bet in such a stunning setting.
“The app is clearly built different, working at such a height. I think England are too, which is why I think they can win the World Cup.”
“Midnite is making waves in the industry, and to be involved in a campaign like this where they continue to push the boundaries is something I’m really pleased about.”
